Why screen time needs a fix
Screen time isn't the problem. What's on it is.
Most young children use screens every day. Taking them away completely isn't realistic for most families, but changing what children watch, and how long for, makes a real difference.
What experts recommend
Paediatric guidance in India and worldwide agrees on one thing: young children need limits, and the content matters as much as the minutes.
1 hr
Ages 2 to 5
A day at most, and less is better. (Indian Academy of Pediatrics, WHO)
< 2 hrs
Ages 5 to 10
A day, with good-quality content. (Indian Academy of Pediatrics)
0
Under 2
Screen time is not recommended, apart from video calls with family. (IAP, WHO)
Experts also advise keeping screens away from meals and the hour before bed, and watching or playing together with your child whenever you can.
What goes wrong today
Most apps children use were never designed for them. They're designed to keep anyone watching.
- Autoplay and endless feeds. One video rolls into the next, so there's never a natural place to stop.
- Ads aimed at children. Young children can't tell an ad from a show, and many apps rely on that.
- Passive watching. Hours of fast-paced clips with nothing to think about, answer or create.
- Content that isn't age-appropriate. Open platforms can surface videos that are confusing or unsuitable for a 4-year-old.
- No view for parents. It's hard to know what your child actually watched, or for how long.
What good screen time looks like
- Made for their age. Content built for what children aged 2 to 8 can understand and enjoy.
- Active, not passive. Children answer, choose, play and talk, instead of only watching.
- A clear finish line. Sessions that end, so stopping feels normal rather than a fight.
- Something to take away. A new word, a number, a value or an idea they can talk about afterwards.
- Parents in the loop. Simple controls and a clear view of how time is spent.
How Kidoflix is different
Kidoflix is designed around these ideas from the ground up.
- Original shows, games, audio stories and GOOFU that teach something new every day, built on our LEAP principles: Learning, Engagement, Attention and Proficiency.
- A time lock that keeps every session within healthy daily limits for your child's age. You set the limit, and you can change it anytime.
- No ads, no open feeds and no autoplay rabbit holes.
- A parent section where you choose what your child watches and plays, and see simple insights on how they spend their time.
- Audio stories that give eyes a rest while imaginations keep working.
Tips for parents
- Agree on screen times in advance, so the end of a session is expected.
- Watch or play together when you can, and talk about what your child saw.
- Keep screens out of meals and the hour before bed.
- Choose content made for your child’s age, without ads or autoplay.
- Balance screen time with outdoor play, reading and time with family.
